I will describe some of our range:-
Buckram. Water resistant tightly woven starch filled cotton material designed for book coverings, being the material chosen for library books where a long term longevity is required. Because it is so heavily packed with starch, it is very dimensionally stable, to affix it to the book cardboard, one must use PVE paste. We now carry an English buckram with width of 1068 mm, comes in many colours.
Crash Canvas Starch filled non water resistant natural coloured canvas type material, shot weave with a colour like blue. Fairly strong and durable, and needs PVA glue to bind with book cover. We sell it by the metre.
Book Cloth Non water resistant, starch filled woven cotton book covering material. Marginally thinner than buckram, chosen for books with low access frequency. Some of the common usages are as spine covering for cheque books and journals, and note books. As a training material for learning the techniques of book bonding, it will serve the purpose well. We carry the range with Black, Blue and White. The White one is often used as spine reinforcing material.
Muslin cloth Weave No 1. Also known as Mull or Jaconette. Loosely woven hessian material, come in natural colour, and usually used for book spine construction, and sometimes used by printers for cleaning the printing plates. Very economical, they come in 1150 mm width, and sells by
the metre, or 250mm x 1150mtr pieces.
Head bands These are braided and woven strips of material, ready to be attached to the top of the spine to give a better looking finish to the spine of a book. We sell it by the metre.
Book Linen Thread No.3 These are fine grade threads for sewing book sections. They come in natural colour. One could lubricate the thread with bees wax by rubbing the thread through a block of bees wax. They are sold as a small skein of approx' 6 metres. White and natural are available.
PVA glue Sold in 500ml or 1 litre size tubs, this is bookbinders glue with an acid free content. Also available in small size squirt bottles for small jobs.
Bone folders 4 x sizes are available, but they all fit the hand well, for any folding work. Made of Buffalo bone, nothing much else gives the feel and hardness for folding work.
