When mixing Watercolours or Gouache, using water to get the right brushwork consistency. Errors can show in the finished - dried work, even after careful application by brush.

Drying marks and uneven colour are the bad effects that show most.

Although the technique of Wet on Wet is done at the time of painting, these errors can still appear.

The cure for this is to add a little OX GALL to water (distilled water - for real purity), before mixing your colours.

By Ox Gall we don’t mean the extra thick (Dark Green) raw Ox Gall used in watercolour marbling, but the normally available bottles from makers like Winsor Newton (75ml bottles).

WHEN MIXING YOUR OX GALL - MAKE IT UP AT THE RATE OF 12 DROPS TO 1 CUP OF DISTILLED WATER, THIS IS A GOOD MIXTURE TO MAKE/MIX YOUR WATER COLOURS OR GOUACHES FROM.
