The available Chinese or Japanese paper rolls shown below are used mostly
for brush painting or calligraphy, but also work well for woodblock or lino
printing and as window/ screen paper. They can also be used for photo album
interleave papers as some of them are see through thin.

Traditional
bleached white Sumie painting paper from Japan. This is available
in 12 inches wide rolls and is approximately
16 metres long. Made of cotton and rag content, with a 'skin
look' finish - (smooth on the back and slightly rough on the front). The
cost each is AUD$22.50. Also from Japan a 28 inch wide roll at AUD$48.80. |

A
Taiwanese
copy of
the Japanese Sumie paper, it has a very similar painters 'feel' to the
original, but is slightly thinner. It comes in 2x sizes as follows;

Here is the standard Chinese 1 ply thickness painters paper, made form 100% cotton content and acid free. These rolls are actually 1 metre lengths and each roll contains 10 pieces. The width is 12 inches/300mm. Very economical to buy, as most Chinese painting papers are - these rolls have the panel style sizes which are cut ready for traditional Chinese scroll making. These 3x rolls are made in China from Mulberry (Jap: Kozo), which has a natural cream colour. As such they are long strand manufactured and this makes the resulting paper double to triple strength. Guan Shi Hsien - a well known Chinese Painting & Calligraphy paper, from the Guan Shi area of China, made from a hundred percent cotton (acid-free, un-sized). This is the standard 1 ply thickness used by painters & calligraphers alike, and is 1370mm x 695mm (4 foot 6 inches x 2 foot 4 inches) in size. CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY LINED
& UNLINED PRACTISE SHEETS
When practising Chinese Calligraphy with a brush, there is
a large range of lined or squares papers that can help you with the correct
positioning of the character. These are printed in red or green colour with
either upright lines or with squares across the whole surface.
