Dip Nib Beginner Sets
Basic Equipment for Western Calligraphy

A BASIC SET OF DIP NIB CALLIGRAPHY EQUIPMENT, FOR THOSE WITH OR WITHOUT A TEACHER.



To do calligrapy using a dip nib pen, you will need the following equipment:

A range of nib sizes to enable different heights of letters.
A handle to hold the nib in use.
An ink in a bottle, with a wide neck for dipping into.
The paper to write on.

This short list means the costs are nominal for results that are phenominal. Setting up your paper however, may require some extra equipment and reference books. We suggest the listed items below to get you up and going.

TO DO CALLIGRAPHY
The William Mitchell italic nib set, with 2x reservoirs.

1. A set of 10x William Mitchell nibs, for either a right handed person (AUD$18.50), or for a left handed person (AUD$27.00). Each set has 2x slip on ink reservoirs to hold extra ink on the bigger nibs.
2. A Caran d'Ache nib holder to fit a nib onto for writing use. Cost AUD$4.00 each.
3. Black ink in a 30ml size jar. This is carbon black, a non-waterproof ink ideal for practise and finished work. The jar has a functional twist-lock top, to stop leakage. Cost AUD$2.65 each.
4. A pad of 100x A4 size Bond paper, specially hard surfaced to resist nib scratching. Cost AUD$6.00 each. A3 sized with 100x sheets costs AUD$11.55 each.
5. "Speedball Textbook" version 23, a reference book with all the base information necessary to start writing letters in a number of styles. This is a good reference/teaching book, that covers the aspects of Western Calligraphy, with chapters on advanced styles as well as for the beginner. Cost AUD$41.85 each.
