Inks for Western Calligraphy

|
Dr Martin's
Spectralite is waterproof when
dry. For calligraphy, it flows well from nibs and along with Dr
Martin's Bleedproof White (next), the Spectralite Airbrush range
has been around for many years. These metallic inks represent one of the
standards for Gold, Silver, Brass, Platinum, Copper, Olive Green
etc, that other inks are measured by. They are made from thin acrylic ink, they can be used for most artists uses - with brushes, airbrushes and also technical pens. Besides the favourite metallics, 2x of the most attractive inks in the range are the Glossy Black and Matt Black finishes. The 30ml bottles sell for AUD$15.60 each. |
|
Dr Martin's also has one of the best Bleedproof White Inks on the market. It comes in 30ml jars and is a water dilutable paste. When dry this ink becomes waterproof and allows other inks to be coated over it - so, your work done in error can be covered with plain white and you can re-do the area. As a calligraphers ink with the right amount of dilution, it makes a very good pointed-nib - copperplaters ink. The results are excellent as it can be diluted to exactly the right thickness to flow correctly with thin and thick nib strokes. These sell retail for AUD$19.65 each. |
|
The latest ink range from Dr Martin's that we carry are the 'Metalcraft' super-hardening inks. These allow work to be done with fine nibs or brushes by calligraphers, on surfaces like glass, melomine/formica, glazed pottery, metal plaques etc. The inks do dry fairly rapidly, so patience is worth having when using this range. Some exquisite work has been done by our in-house calligrapher for many applcations (see photo left). Besides the Extender or Thinner bottle, the colours available are: White, Black, Spruce Green, Slate Blue, Bronze, Brass, Deep Purple, Mauve, Burgundy. The 60ml bottles are AUD$13.00 each. |
