The
above BAMBOO & REED pens are prepared & ready to go.
Simply dip into a bottle of carbon black ink until the brass reservoir
is full,
then you can begin writing..The small brass reservoir is a modern addition
to the pen,
and not the way these would have been used in the old days.
Besides this, the pen package has full instructions on re-trimming the
tipwith a blade,
as the pens tip will wear down from use.
The
REED pen was used to write on PAPYRUS in Egypt & later by the Romans.
The tips are cut with a square, flat tip for lettering, and can be used
for most styles of calligraphy.
When using the BAMBOO pen it is a harder material than the REED, and will
not wear as quickly.
Prices are AUD$7.00
each.
The
ink used (carbon black ink) can be bought in small or large bottles,
see the Chinese painting inks on our webpage at: Chinese
Inks,
with
small bottles at the end of the page
Here is the last of the writing tools before the steel dip nib. The GOOSE
feather.
Recently it has gained fame for its use in the "Harry Potter" movies,
but was a mainstay of European writing for a long time. The tip is softer
than the older BAMBOO & REED counterparts. This enabled all styles of
calligraphy to be accomplished, even MASTERs COPPERPLATE, the forerunner of
our modern handwriting. To function correctly these are hardened on the tip
and cut the right way to get a lettering nib. Instructions are included in
each pack, to enable you to re-trim a worn nib tip.
Each Cut Quill sells for AUD$12.00
