The most popular is the “C” series:
Speedball style “C” Flat (Right oblique) for Roman, Texts and Italic Letters, and for accented Line Drawings, Scrolls or Scripts. These have square cut tips – just slightly tilted to the right – ideal for GOTHIC, UNCIAL and FOUNDATION HAND styles of calligraphy, or any type of lettering that is upright with horizontal side stroked lines.

There are 7x nibs in this “C” series, sizes from 0 (the largest) to 6 (the smallest).

Speedball style “B” Round; for Gothic or Outline Letters, Cartoons, Uniform Line Drawings, Borders and Display Posters.

There are 9x nibs in this series, sizes from 0 (the largest) to 6 (the smallest). There are 2x added ½ sizes in this set, the 5 ½ and the ½ (between 0 and 1).

These nibs are all sharp pointed style nibs, and have uses for COPPERPLATE LETTERING OF ALL KINDS, and the finer ones are used extensively for drawing, mapping, fine line work, cartooning etc.

Amongst these fine nibs the most popular are the 101, 56, 22, for lettering uses & some use the 512EF.

Note about nib holder/handles: The nibs in the picture (left) with the GREEN band will all fit in a standard nib handle, such as the black plastic Speedball 9451 (AUD$6.20), or any of the others such as Caran d’Ache (AUD$5.60), Wiliam Mitchell (3 sided) Multi handle, Brause painted wooden handle, Brause double ended wooden handle etc.

If doing COPPERPLATE STYLES of lettering (including American/Spencerian letters) the Speedball Oblique handle can be used to make right handed calligraphers lettering smoother, as it corrects the nib angle. These are AUD$9.30.

The remaining 3x nibs 102, 107, 108 (shown in RED in the left side picture) will only fit in Hunt’s special mapping/drawing nib handle, known as the 9452. 1x holder will cost AUD$4.90 to buy.
