WALNUT INK CRYSTALS

The Walnut shell Ink Crystals are now available from us, supplied ready to use in a glass jar with lid. Simply add Distilled or Rain Water, filling the jar. Stir or shake for a minute, and you have a ready to go ink. For Calligraphers, we know this is a marvellous Copperplaters Ink, with the gorgeous Walnut tint. This is a very adaptable item, that can create wonderful effects as a paper dye, as an 'Aged Look' dye to make paper/card look old, and allow many other special tricks to be performed on it. One simple effect is to adjust the shade of brownness by adding more or less water. This adjusts the tint from nearly black to super pastel brown. (See the shades shown in the pictures below left). By using a sponge with the colour pre-mixed to the shade you need, wiped across a paper/card, then drip water or salt on it, for attractive looking random speckled effects. Dip dye or sponge the colour on your paper or card to get the base dye effect you need. Then write with a nib dipped in bleach across the surface. This repels the walnut away from the written wording/strokes. The ink remains water soluble after drying, so if you require a more waterproof finish, spray with artists Workable Fixative aerosol.
