WAX SEAL STICKS
|
Wax sticks have always been easily breakable, until just a few years ago. But the new Flexi-Wax sticks have changed all that. The picture of coloured wax sticks to the left has Flexi-Wax sticks that bend and dont break. We still sell many other colours of standard wax sticks, but this new range certainly has become the most popular. Flexi-Wax sticks can be melted using a Gas Torch in the same way as normal ones, and you must be sure not to overheat the stick with the naked flame as they will catch alight and flare-up. The colours available are as listed and orders can be placed
via mail order. |
GETTING YOUR WAX SEALING DONE
To successfully melt wax sticks a refillable torch burner is best to do the job, one is shown in the picture below-left. Cigarette lighters will not do the job, as you will burn your fingers from the heat, before enough of a melted wax puddle is ready for the impression.
For the standard small size seals, which includes the pre-made designs (around 20mm diameter), a circular blob of melted wax a little larger than 20mm will be enough to give a finished seal - like the one in the picture below-right.

Special note: An alternate method exists to melt sticks and maximize
the amount of seals produced, but it only works if a job has a large-ish quantity
of seals to do - say 50x or more at the one time. By breaking some sticks
and melting them in a small can or an old small cooking pot, heat the can
on a low setting gas or electric hot ring . If the heat is to high the melted
wax will splutter - SO KEEP IT AT A LOW TEMPERATURE - but loose and runny.
The hot wax can be poured out - VERY SLOW and GENTLY - until the right size
of button is poured. Wait 15 seconds for the wax to cool a bit, then insert
the seal into it, to get your finished impression. As the speed of production
is so much quicker by this method, you will need to cool the metal tip of
the seal as much as possible between seal impressing. This is best done by
having a shallow saucer of water with a few ice cubes in it on your work table.
Simply stand the tip of the seal in it while pouring the next half dozen or
so wax buttons. Dry off the seal with a paper tissue before impressing more
wax.
# Unfortunately the pot used will not be cleanable after this use, and must
be thrown out or kept for the next occasion.

WAX BUTTONS - instead of burning sticks

These wax buttons are Flexi-wax (bendable, non breaking) and are made cut to size for use with the standard wax seals. Any of the following Pre-made Seals will work just perfectly with these buttons. As you can see from the picture to the left, you use a craft hot air blower to melt the wax in the position you wish the seal to be. It will turn into a soft blob within a short time and then accept the wax seal image. |
SELF ADHESIVE WAX SEALS in CUSTOM DESIGNS
Self Adhesive Seals can be the quick answer for all your wax sealing needs. They have a sticky back side and you would simply tear off the backing paper and position them on your card and press. There are all of the pre-made seal designs available (see the designs by clicking here). Also if you have a design of your own, this can be used to make a set of seals for you.
All these seals are available in the wax colour you choose, currently there are 15x colours you can select from. Click here to see the shades.

WAX SEALS IN PRE-MADE DESIGNS

Wax Seals can be purchased pre-molded in a number of designs, notably the ALPHABET series, plus many other interesting insignia etc. See the range in the picture-left or come to our shop. PERSONAL WAX SEAL - ORDERING
We can create wax seal designs to your custom specifications, this will fit onto the size of seal you choose, as shown below. So, either you submit a design you would like made into a seal or we create one for you, then we can quote a price to you by return. Once you agree to the quote, we ask for a deposit or the full amount beforehand, and then have the seal design manufactured. The time taken to do most jobs is from a 7 to 14 days, after the final design approval is given.

### PLEASE NOTE: Any custom design work cut into these surfaces will be 2 to 3mm smaller than the outer sizes shown.
Custom Image Specifications
The image/design that you make should be a 600dpi black & white *.TIF file, in double the finished size. Say, 60 to 80mm square. Please don't send colour images or greyscale images, what is needed is just a black & white image. The file can also be a *.EPS (Illustrator vector graphic) image. These can be (compressed/squeezed) and emailed to us, so we can advise you if the image will need alteration or is ok as it is.
If you are unable to send any of the above, then a laser printout or bromide photo can be sent to the shop, and we will scan and clean it up for you. We also offer a design creating service based on computer time used to finish the work. The rate is AUD$50.00 per half hour. This can include scanning and cleaning up an image or adjusting the artwork to your approval.
